Bonnie Nagel Obituary

Bonnie May (Shock) Nagel went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 23, 2022, after a courageous battle with Alzhiemer’s.

Bonnie was born to Cecil and Ethyl Shock on September 16, 1945 in Defiance, Ohio. She met the love of her life, David L. Nagel Sr., in 1960 while cruising the streets of downtown Napoleon on a Friday night. It was love at first sight and they married  on January 14, 1962, and went on to have four children -  Terrance, David Jr., Debra, and Douglas.

Bonnie was a successful partner in Nagel’s Plumbing and Heating, established in 1968 in Ayersville, Ohio, which took care of families and businesses all across Northwest Ohio and beyond.  Most of all, Bonnie loved her family. She was a wonderful and caring wife, mother, and grandmother and enjoyed attending the kids’ events and was very proud of all of them and their accomplishments.

She was a follower of Jesus Christ and knew that her eternal home is with her Lord and Savior. She had a servant’s heart and sought to serve Him in many ways. She was a youth leader, led women’s Bible studies, served as head of the women’s society, visited the sick and shut-ins, and supported those in need.

Bonnie had the unique gift of making everyone feel special and holidays were always an event no one wanted to miss. She would greet everyone at the door with a big smile and hug, all while giggling as she was genuinely happy to see family and friends. She had a quick smile and an easy laugh. Bonnie never knew a stranger, rather she viewed them as  friends she hadn’t yet met. Her family would often joke that she couldn’t go into a bathroom without coming out with a friend.

During her life, she enjoyed crocheting, baking, dancing, roller skating, riding motorcycles, and walking the beach. She served as the 1st Lady of Division 1 Kiwanis Club in 1978, was a member of Zonta, Defiance branch, and a member of the Gideon’s women’s auxiliary. Bonnie and Dave also loved to travel and enjoyed exploring the country together.

Well done, good and faithful servant!

Bonnie is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, David Nagel Sr., two sons David Jr. (Debbie) and Doug, daughter Debra Mock (Jeff), and her sister, Betty Relyea (Paul - deceased). She also leaves eight grandchildren whom she adored, Erica Canfield (Dion), Kyle Mock (Amanda), Josh Nagel (Emily), Aaron Nagel (Sara), Sam Mock (Lydia), Ashley Nagel and Taylor Welbon (Adam), and 13 amazing great grandchildren Carter, Grace and Christian Canfield (Erica); Addison, Boston, Lincoln and Collins Mock (Kyle); Armani, Nora and Rowan Nagel (Josh); Harrison and Hayes Nagel (Aaron), Sadie, Albert, Asher and Sophia Mock (Sam).

She is preceded in death by her parents Cecil and Ethyl Shock, stepmother Hazel Shock, brother Bill Shock, half-sister Jane Smith, infant son Terrance Nagel, and granddaughter Allison Nagel.
