Betty Lou (Shock) Relyea

Betty Lou Relyea, 84, of Defiance, passed away on November 24, 2025, at Vancrest of Holgate.  
  
She was born on May 19, 1941, to Cecil and Ethel (DeTray) Shock in Paulding, Ohio. Betty worked as a baker for Chief Supermarket for many years before her retirement. On November 24, 1962, she married Paul Relyea who preceded her on November 1, 2021.
  
Betty was an avid gardener and baker. She enjoyed watching nature, especially hummingbirds, while sitting in her swing in the back yard. Betty was a faithful member of Bethel Christian Church of Arthur.  She will be sadly missed by her family and all who knew her.
  
Betty is survived by her son, Joe (Carrie) Relyea of Defiance, grandchildren, Jessica Relyea, Colton (Brenna) Relyea, and Aubrey Relyea, and great-grandchildren, Henson, Adelyn, and Beckett Relyea. 
  
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul C. Relyea, son, Jim Relyea, sister, Bonnie Nagel, and brother, Bill Shock.
  
Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 3, 2025, 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2025, 11:00 am at the Bethel Christian Church of Arthur, with Pastor Chris Baker, officiating. Betty will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery.
