Betty Jean (Wellman) Mansfield

Betty J. Mansfield, age 87 of Payne, Ohio, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at Vancrest of Payne.   
  
She was born on April 13, 1934 to the late George and Mabel (Hall) Wellman in Defiance County, Ohio. Betty was one of nine children. Her siblings were Bruce, Emerson, John, Kathlean, Arlene, George, Edwin and Marilean. On September 22, 1953 she married Paul Mansfield, who preceded her in death on August 26, 2008.

Betty was a faithful member of First Baptist Church and was a former church treasurer. She was also a member of Gideon International and served as a State Officer. Betty and Paul co-owned and operated IGA Store in Oakwood and Continental, and then she assisted her son and daughter-in-law with their carryout "Morning Star" in Melrose, Ohio. Betty loved baking, and she treasured her time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
  
Betty is survived by her children; David (Lesa) Mansfield and Randy (Jan) Mansfield, all of Oakwood, OH, and Tammy (Craig) Garrett of Bakersfield, CA, her grandchildren; Kylee Shirey, Michael (Janie) Mansfield, Levi (Chelsea) Mansfield, and Lindsey (Daniel) Gunderman, and ten great-grandchildren.  
  
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 28, 2022 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service to celebrate her life will follow at 3:00 pm at the funeral home, with Rev. Wayne Altstaetter officiating. Burial will follow the service at Mansfield Cemetery.
