Bernice L. "Bernie" Shock, age 87 of Defiance, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
She was born in Wauseon, Ohio on August 28, 1935 to the late Samuel and Virginia (Hill) Goldsmith. On August 18, 1967 she married James Shock, who survives.
Bernie graduated from Wauseon High School where she was a high school cheerleader. She worked several years at the Scenic Supper Club that was located between Florida and Napoleon, Ohio. She was a wonderful and much loved wife, mother and grandmother. Bernie had the prettiest smile and was a warm and loveable woman to all who met her. She enjoyed her family very much. Bernie enjoyed traveling, attending movies, theater events, and playing cards. Her greatest enjoyment was the family's get togethers on Thanksgiving and Christmas with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She frequently participated at UAW Local #211, UAW CAP and other union organizing activities and Democratic political rallies with her husband and friends.
Bernie will be sadly missed by her loving husband, James L Shock of Defiance, her children, Paul (Jerry) Like, Julie (Ron) Nagley and Michelle (Michael) Imthurn, and sister-in-law, Barbara Bowen. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Tera (Ben) Rolf, Dustin (Kirsten) Imthurn and Taylor (Jason) Lipps, and great-grandchildren Lily Rolf, Henry Rolf and Violet Imthurn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother James Goldsmith, and her sisters Arlene Eicher and Marjorie Goethe.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 26, 2023 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, March 27, 2023 at the funeral home, with Chaplain Dale Katcher officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery.
