Bernard A. Herr

Bernard Andrew Herr, age 93 of Defiance, passed away into the arms of his Savior on Saturday, March 5, 2022 with his family by his side.   
  
He was born at home on June 4, 1928 in Defiance, the son of John and Margaret (Keller) Herr. Growing up on a farm in Defiance, he graduated from Jewell High School in 1946. He went on to serve two years in the United States Army as a Military Policeman and then served as an Ohio State Highway Patrolman for 12 years. He worked at Dinner Bell Foods for 28 years until his retirement in 1990.

On September 23, 1953 he married the love of his life, Dorothy Trubey. He was a faithful member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and was a life member of Defiance AmVets #1991 and Eagles #372. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, taking care of his yard, or tinkering on his cars. He always had to be busy doing something. 

Bernard will be missed by his loving wife of 68 years, Dorothy Herr of Defiance, their children; Craig (Jeanne) Herr of Battle Creek, MI, Bernie (Dixie) Herr of Defiance, and Susan Herr of Defiance. He also leaves behind his grandchildren; Casey (Gary) Grant, Eric Herr, Kyle Herr, and Jonah (Anna) Herr, his great-grandchildren; Colton, Ethan and Delaney Grant, Jack, Maggie and Luke Herr, and his sister Rose Slocum.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters; Mary Leopold, Katherine Pruitt, Helen Diehl and Betty Smith, and his brothers; John Herr, Joseph Herr, Jim Herr and Leo Herr. 
  
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 from 9:30 to 11:00 am at St. Michael's Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:00 am at the church, with Fr. John Stites officiating. Burial will take place at Riverview Memory Gardens.
