Barbara Ann (Schlegel) Dockery

Barbara Ann Dockery, 89, of Defiance, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Monday, March 30, 2026 at The Laurels of Defiance.   

She was born in Defiance, Ohio on August 31, 1936 to the late Lester and Jeanetta (Feeney) Schlegel. In 1963 she married Denver Miller who passed away in 1969. On September 24, 1974 she married Bernard V. Dockery, who preceded her in death on August 7, 2010. 

Barbara Ann attended Trinity United Methodist Church, and most recently she was a member of Second Baptist Church. She was the head cook at The Laurels for several years until her retirement in 1998. She enjoyed coloring, painting, fishing, and playing Bingo. Barbara Ann loved her family and grandchildren above all else. 

Barbara Ann is survived by her children, Denver (Yvonne) Miller of Pleasant Lake, IN, Angie Peebles of Defiance, Bernard V. Dockery II of Moundsville, WV, and Benjamin Dockery, her stepchildren, Kenneth (Lisa) Miller of Defiance, and Patricia Scott of Paulding, OH, 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. 

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her brother, Junior Schlegel, stepdaughter, Helen Barlett, granddaughter, Julie Barlett, and sons-in-law, Christopher Peebles and Ronald Scott.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2026 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson-Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton Street) in Defiance. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm at the funeral home, with Celebrant Deb Miller officiating. Barbara Ann will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery.
