Anthony "Tony" Suffel

Anthony "Tony" H.  Suffel, age 66, of Defiance passed away Sunday March 9th, 2025, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Toledo.  

He was born August 3, 1958, in Defiance. 

Surviving are his wife, Sharla (Shaffer) Suffel, sons, Terry and Justin of Pauling, daughter, Kara of Columbus, Ohio, Stepson, Tyler Shaffer of New York City, his father, Bill Romes of Defiance, brothers, Robert (Sharon) Floss Jr. of Urbana, Darriel (Connie) Suffel of Defiance, Randy (Mickey) Suffel of Paulding, and John (Kris) Romes of Defiance, sister, Joyce of Indiana, and sister-in-law, Suzanne Shaffer of Wakarusa, IN, and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn (Schlosser-Romes), sisters, Linda and Janice and brother, David. 

Tony graduated from Paulding High School in 1978. During his time as a wrestler, he had the most takedowns and was the most improved player in 1974/1975. He received his 3-year award in 1975-1976. He was voted M.V.P. in 1976-1977.  

Tony loved spending time with his wife and with his pets. He loved his family. He loved fishing. He was an avid Ohio State fan. He was also working on his autobiography. Anyone who met him knew he didn’t know a stranger. 

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A Memorial Service will follow at 12:00 at the funeral home, with Celebrant Deb Miller officiating.
