Alton J. Myers

Alton J. Myers, age 90 of Defiance, peacefully passed away on Tuesday evening, January 21, 2025 at Glenn Park of Defiance.   
  
He was born at home in Highland Township on December 31, 1934 to Herman and Stella (Schubert) Myers in Defiance, Ohio. Alton was a 1952 graduate of Ayersville High School, and was the youngest in his class. Alton earned his Bachelor's degree from Defiance College and a Master's degree from Bowling Green State University. He taught Math and Sciences at Payne and Antwerp Schools for thirteen years. He later decided to become a Presbyterian Minister and earned his Master's degree in Theology from Dubuque University in Dubuque, Iowa. He spent the rest of his working career ministering at several churches in Ohio and Indiana.

Alton was frequently seen at Ayersville and Defiance College basketball games. He was also an avid runner, competing in many 5K and 10K races and marathons. Alton was a published author and wrote Historical Fiction regarding the 30 year Religious War in Europe. He lived in Detroit during the riots of the sixties and wrote a book of his experiences during that time. Alton was a friendly and likeable person and everyone he met thought kindly of him.

Alton is survived by his cousins, Rachel Kulp of Gentry, Arkansas, Elizabeth Morris of Lebanon, Ohio, and Lewis Myers of Defiance. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Stella Myers, and his sister Leora S. Myers. 
  
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm at the funeral home, with Rev. Ann Wasson officiating. Alton will be laid to rest in Myers Cemetery.
