Williiam Chaney, 93, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away on  September 7, 2014 at The Laurels of Defiance.

Bill  and Eileen were married for 69 years and resided in the Tiffin, OH area until moving to the Defiance area in 1963. He was an instructor of English and Business Writing at Defiance College until retirement in 1983. He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ and an emeritus member of the Modern Language Association.  He was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing as well as gardening.

Bill was born on April 2, 1921 to Raymond  and Mildred (Myers) Chaney in Bloomville OH. Bill served as a Technical Sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II.  He married Eileen Rhoad of  Tiffin OH on June 10, 1945.  Their children are Gary Chaney of Sherwood OH, Coleen (Jim) Vincent of Omaha, NE, Deanna (Tim) Smith of Osseo MI, and Carol (Bill)
Halstead of  Manotick ON; grandchildren are Buddy and John Vincent, John and Bill Walk, and David and Mike Halstead.  There are four great grandchildren.

Bill is survived by brothers, Van (Alice) Chaney of Anchorage AK, and Ralph (Deborah) Chaney of Bedford TX, and a sister, Jean Ann (Harold) Kelbley of Bloomville OH. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Dean and Jack Chaney.

A memorial service will be held at St. John UCC, on Sunday September 14 at 4:00. Memorials are suggested to St. John UCC, Defiance OH or a charity of choice.
