Obituary

Rev. William J. Martin The Reverend William J. Martin, age 83, of Sherwood, Oh , passed away at 7:15 P:M , Saturday, May 17th, 2008 at the Ursuline Center in Toledo, Oh. He was born in Sandusky, Ohio on January 4, 1925, he was the son of the late William T. and Nell (Bauman) Martin. He served recently, from 1988 to 2002, as pastor at St. Stephen's and Marysdale Immaculate Conception Catholic churches, now St. Isidore Catholic church. Following his retirement he assisted at St. Isidore parishes and continued to live at the rectory at St. Isidore - Delaware Bend . He was ordained a priest of the 19 county Catholic Diocese of Toledo on May 18, 1950. He was a 1941 graduate of Sandusky High School. A graduate of the St. Meinrad seminary. He also obtained his masters from Notre Dame University. Among his assignments were at St. Catherine's in Toledo, St. Wendelin in Fostoria, St. Mary in Vermillion, as Rector of Holy Spirit Seminary in Toledo and as Vocations Director. Surviving is a Sister: Catherine Schneider of Fremont,Oh. Also survived by 6 nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by a sister- Marjorie Orchekowski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at at St. Isidore Catholic Church, Marysdale. Rt. 15 N. at 1:00 P:M on Wednesday, May 21st, with Bishop Leonard Blair officiating. Friends are invited to call Tuesday 4-9 and 9-1 Wednesday at St. Isidore Catholic Church -Marysdale. Rt 15 N. and Glenburg Rd. (church is between Bryan and Defiance on Rt. 15) There will be a 4:00 Vesper Services Tuesday at the church. Interment at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delaware Bend, Oh. Arrangements were entrusted to the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home, Defiance,Oh.
