Polasek
September 25, 1939 – February 13, 2025
Walter J. Polasek, age 85, passed away peacefully in the arms of his wife on the morning of February 13, 2025. He was born to Steve and Bessie (Sochor) Polasek on September 25, 1939.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Darlene (Short) Polasek, two children; Ben (Susan) Polasek and Jodi (Rodney) Barnes, three grandchildren; Kantrell Hicks, Kiara Hicks (friend John Fugate) and Reagan Polasek (friend Ciera Black), and his brother Robert Polasek.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Bessie Polasek, and great-grandson Xavier Hicks.
Walter attended Jewell High School and Zion Mennonite Church in Archbold, Ohio and was a member of the Farm Bureau. At a young age he began his farming career while working at the Jewell Grain Company and was a lifelong farmer. He loved to attend farm machinery auctions and hang out at the Jewell Grain Elevator. He rarely missed the chance to go out to eat with his friends. Walter never met a stranger because he loved to socialize.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, February 20, 2025 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 21st at Zion Mennonite Church in Archbold, Ohio, with Pastor Sue Short and Pastor John David Thacker officiating. Walter will be laid to rest with a private burial in Pettisville Mennonite Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be directed to Tinora FFA, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
