Waldo J. Aschemeier, 90, of Defiance, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2015 at the Kingsbury House in Defiance.
He was born on February 4, 1925 to Edgar and Sophie (Garbers) Aschemeier in Defiance. In 1943 he married Wanda (Stevenson) Aschemeier, who proceeded him in death in 1979. On June 8, 1980 he married Dorothy (Rannel) Aschemeier, who passed away on October 13, 2011.
Waldo was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Defiance. He joined the U.S. Army and fought in W.W.II. He was a Defiance College graduate, received his Masters Degree at the University of Toledo, and took additional courses at Bowling Green State University. Waldo owned Aschemeier's Barber Shop in Defiance for 13 years. He was a teacher at Northeastern Local Schools, Hicksville, and at Defiance City Schools for 27 years. He was a member of Defiance K of C, a life member of Defiance VFW, Defiance American Legion, and the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, Family Camping Association and Air Stream Association.
Waldo is survived by his sons, W. John Aschemeier, Charles R. (Cindy) Aschemeier, and Joseph L. (Janet) Aschemeier, Stepsons, Gale Frederick, Steve Frederick, Tim Frederick, Tom Frederick, Glen Frederick, Scott Frederick, three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Sophie Aschemeier, Wife, Wanda Aschemeier, Wife, Dorothy Aschemeier, grandson, Jay Aschemeier, and sister, Dorothy Highland.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Defiance, with Fr. Randy Giesige officiating. Burial at Riverside Cemetery will be held at a later date.
