Obituary

Virginia C. Dickman Mrs. Virginia C. Dickman, age 96, of Holgate, passed away Tuesday, December 31st, 2013 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. She had been a resident of Vancrest in Holgate for several years. She was born in Defiance County on June 24, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Mary I. (Welsh) Clemens. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Defiance, the Altar and Rosary Society, the Noodle club, Defiance Senior Center, Defiance Senior Center Poppers, Sunshine club and the Fountain City Squares. She was an avid quilter and a very good cook and baker. She helped run the family farm and had worked at Four County and Holgate Schools cafeteria. Virginia married Walter H. Dickman Feb. 20, 1939 and he died Sept. 11, 2005. Surviving are 4 daughters: Mary Gunter of Napoleon, Carol Terry of Cassopolis, Mi., Cathy (David) Rosell of Jefferson City, Missouri, Dianna (Terry) Gathman of Hamilton, In. 3 sons: Walter (Joann) Dickman Jr. of Gainsboro, Tn., James (Sandra) Dickman of Napoleon, Kevin "Joe" (Paula) Dickman of Galien, Mi. a sister: Bernice (Eugene) Westrick of Defiance 2 brothers: Robert (Louise) Clemens of Holgate, Charles (Marie) Clemens of Mt. Vernon, Oh. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 5 step grand children, 36 great grandchildren,16 step great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren. Preceded in death by 6 sisters; Isabel Franz, Pauline Walker, Frances Miller, Geraldine Minsel, Ruth Karmol, MaryAnn Yaw, a brother; Vincent Clemens and 3 brothers who died in infancy, and a son in law Kenneth Gunter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at at St. Mary Catholic Church, Defiance at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 4th, with Father Randy Giesige officiating. Visitation will be Friday 2-8 p.m. and 8:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home 1753 S. Clinton St. Defiance. Entombment will be in Riverview Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Suggested memorials are to the Holgate Public Library or CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center or Donor's Choice . Condolences may be shared at www.defiancefuneralhome.com
