Obituary

Virgil L. Yetter, age 97, of Defiance, passed away on  Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at the Laurel's of Defiance. He was born on September 6, 1925 to Arnold and Leota (Brecht) Yetter in New Bavaria, Ohio. He served his country in the US Army during World War II in occupied Japan from 1945-1946.  On February 19, 1950  Virgil married Joan Grime and she preceeded him in death on December 8, 2012. He worked as a warehouseman for Johns Manville for 32 years until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of Emanuel's Christian Church of New Bavaria. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather; he will be missed by many family members and friends. Virgil is survived by his daughter, Lois (Marvin) Retcher, of  Defiance, grandson, Ryan (Evette) Retcher of Delaware, Ohio and two great-grandchildren, Addison and Weston Retcher. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Joan Yetter. Visitation will be held  at Schaffer Funeral Home on Wednesday December 21, 2022 from 1:00pm-2:00pm, followed by funeral services at 2:00pm with Pastor Ed Brigaman officiating. Burial will take place in the Riverside Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the church or a charity of the donors choice.
