Virgil Franklin Goodwin, 86, of Defiance, passed away on  Thursday, September 18, 2014 at Laurels of Defiance.

He was born on April 28, 1928 to Walter and Madeline (Hayes) Goodwin in Defiance.  On June 29, 1946 he married Dorothy Steel.

Virgil was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.   He retired from Spangler Candy Co.  in 1988.  Virgil loved fishing, hunting and camping.  He also enjoyed listening to country music and spending time with famiy, especially the grandchildren.

Virgil is survived by his wife, Dorothy, daughters, Diane (Carl) Keith of Defiance, Brenda (Terry) Ross of Defiance, son, Larry (Linda) Goodwin of Bryan, 5 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 4 great- great-grandchildren, and a sister, Sandra Mansfield of Sherwood.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandchildren, Terry Ross, Tony Ross, Jeff Lipp, great-grandson, Brandon Kirkendall, sisters, Marcella McCabe, Violet Reynolds, Patsy Goodwin, brothers, Robert Goodwin, Roger Goodwin, and Joseph Goodwin.

Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2014, and 10-11a.m. on Saturday at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance.  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2014, at the funeral home.with Rev. Justin McCall officiating.  Burial will follow in Riverview Memory Gardens.
