Vilena Maxine (Friend) Ross Vilena Maxine Ross, age 91, of Ayersville, Ohio died Thursday, March 26, 2009, at the Hospice: The Caring Way of Defiance In-Patient Center. She was born on December 20, 1917 in Tipton, Ohio to Charles Asa Friend and Fern Elliott Friend. She was married on October 7, 1940, in Covington, Kentucky, to Lee Ross Jr. who preceded her in death in 1974. Vilena was a former member of the Ayersville Fire Department Auxiliary and a member of the Church of Christ. Preceding her in death were her brothers Harold, Maywood and Robert; sisters Pauline Petty and Ladonna Friend. She is survived by her sister Marvene Hardy of Monroeville, Indiana and sister-in-laws Irma Jean Pratt, Ruth Crone, Marceile Jenkins and Jean Long. She is also survived by nephews Karl Friend, Marshall Moser, Michael Moser, and Bob Long Jr.; by nieces Melanie Christiansen, Paula DiGennaro, Michelle Hardy, Darlene McMillan, Gloria Pabst, Mary Vielma, Tammy Barkley, Sherry Craig, Vicki McClure, Angie Shellenbarger, Randi Wise and Cheryl Wistner. There will be no visitation and private services. Arrangements entrusted to the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home. Burial will be in Middle Creek Cemetery near Grover Hill, Oh.
