Vernon B Young, 90, of Defiance, was ushered into Heaven on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at the Defiance CHP Hospice Center, Defiance, OH.

He was born on April 18, 1924 to Floyd and Nettie (Stork) Young in Henry County, OH. He graduated from Defiance High School in 1942. On August 11, 1946 he married Betty Rickner in Springfield, Ohio, who preceded him in death on February 8, 2014.

Vernon served his country during World War II, as part of the Army Air Corps, earning 5 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Metal, and WWII Victory Metal. He was proud to serve his Country. He was also a 1955 Charter member of Defiance Church of the Nazarene, and a member of VFW 3360.
Vernon made his living as the owner/operator of Young's Home Builders, constructing over 100 homes in the Defiance area. He was also known for the Uncle Sam & Eagle Patriotic statues which he hand crafted.

Vernon is survived by his son, Daniel (Karen) Young of Holgate, OH, son, Edward (Brenda) Young of Defiance, OH, son, James "J.R." (Amy) Young of Hamilton, IN, son, Marvin (Cindy) Young of Defiance, OH, son, Paul (Cindy Ensign) Young of Defiance, OH, son, Thomas (Marie) Young of Englewood, OH, daughter, Mardelle (Tim) Bess of Chester, WV, daughter, Brenda (Ralph) Lloyd of Defiance, OH, daughter, Wanda (Sam) Suman of Findlay, OH, 24 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and his loving dog Lucy.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Betty, father, Floyd Young, mother, Nettie Young, 2 grandsons, Jason Young & David Young, sisters, Fern Rickner & Ruth Lloyd.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 2, 2014, 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home, Inc., Defiance, Ohio.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, 11:00 am at the Schaffer Funeral  Home, Defiance, Ohio, with Pastor Samuel Suman, officiating.

Entombment will take place in the Riverview Memory Gardens.
