Vernon L. Morehead, age 85 of Fort Wayne, Indiana, formerly of Defiance, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at Evergreen Village of Ft. Wayne, Indiana. He was born on September 30, 1937 to the late Paul and Florence (Doenges) Morehead in Paulding County, Ohio. On May 28, 1960 he married Sandra (Seigman) Morehead, who preceded him in death on May 3, 2020.

Vernon worked at the A&P Grocery Store and then for eight years at Dinner Bell before working at General Motors in Defiance for 17 years. He moved to Spring Hill, Tennessee and worked at the Saturn Plant for 10 years before retiring in 2000. His carpentry work was exceptional, building many items for family members and friends. His Art Talent was creative and expressive. His favorite past-time was fishing and kayaking. Vernon loved his family and was a caring husband, father and grandfather. Vernon will be sadly missed by his daughters, Vicki (Greg) Schafer, Marci (Alan ) Trent, and Kelli (Tom) Stuart. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and his brother, Ronald Morehead of Defiance. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Sandra, his brother, Clairen Morehead, and sisters Joyce (Don) Bidlack and Donna Kalt. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 12:30 pm at Riverview Memory Gardens in Defiance. Schaffer Funeral Home was honored to assist the family with arrangements.
