Sylvia M. Young, age 90, of Defiance, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. She was born on June 2, 1928 to William and Christina (Parmenter) Ball in Defiance. On February 24, 1951 she married August B. "Dean" Young, who preceded her in death on September 11, 2013. Sylvia was an active member of Defiance Society of Artists. In her leisure time she enjoyed art and gardening. Sylvia will be greatly missed by her children: Gloria (Bill) Finn of Defiance, Mary Jane (Tim) Bowers of Flagstaff, AZ, and Philip (Amy) Young of Cecil, five grandchildren; Neil (Christi) Starrett, Kati Finn, James Young, Kari Young, and Keenan Young, three great-grandchildren with one on the way, sister, Dolena  Bergman, and sister-in-law, Elaine Ball. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, August B. Young, and many brothers and sisters. Visitation will be held from 3-8 pm on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Rev. John McKay officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to CHP Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center.
