Suzanne N. Schatz, age 88, died peacefully on January, 2, 2015.  She was born June 15, 1926 in Defiance, the daughter of Dr. Paul Barkley Newcomb and Carmen (Swaney) Newcomb.

A graduate of Defiance High School, Suzanne attended Wells College in Aurora, NY and graduated from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL with a Bachelor of Arts degree.  In 1948, she married Ralph Taylor Schatz who preceded her in death in 1978.  She was associated with Strait Realty for several years and was a life member of the Defiance Hospital Auxillary and St. Paul's United Methodist Church.  Suzanne also was a past member of the Kettenring Country Club and the Wyant Art Study Club.

In 2009, Suzanne moved to Durham, NC to be near her daughter and resided at Croasdaile Village retirement community.

Surviving are children Sally Jo Schatz of Chapel Hill, NC and John Barkley Schatz.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 8, 2014, with Rev. Joe Payne officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St, Paul's United Methodist Church, Defiance Area Foundation, or Northwestern University's College of Arts and Sciences for curriculum.
