Stephen J. Addington, age 93 of Defiance, peacefully passed away on Monday, July 1, 2024 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. He was born on April 27, 1931 to the late Lawton and Bonnie (Kilgore) Addington in Nickelsville, Virginia. Stephen proudly served in the U.S. Army PFC3 during the Korean War from 1954-1955. On January 3, 1954 he married Phyllis Blankenbeckler, who preceded him in death on September 26, 2009. Stephen was a member of Kings Cross Church. He moved to Defiance in 1962 from Nickelsville, VA and began working at Zeller Corporation for 27 years until his retirement. He loved spending time with his family. Stephen is survived by his sons, Steven L. Addington of Defiance, William E. Addington of Defiance, Dale S. Addington of Napoleon, Richard Addington of Holgate, and Daniel (Tammy) Addington of Holgate. He was very proud of his sons and their accomplishments. He also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Addington, son Alan Addington, brother Jimmy Addington, two half-brothers, three half-sisters, and two grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 5, 2024 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson/Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton Street) in Defiance. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home, with Rev. Max Begley officiating. Stephen will be laid to rest at Riverview Memory Gardens. Memorials are suggested to Kings Cross Church.
