Shirley A. Adcock, age 90 of Defiance, passed away on Wednesday morning, January 14, 2026 at Kingsbury Place in Defiance, Ohio. She was born in Defiance, Ohio on July 21, 1935 to the late Florence (Ott) and Victor F. Mekus Sr. Shirley was a 1953 graduate of Defiance High School and on February 6, 1970 she married Lawrence "Larry" Adcock. They celebrated 50 years of marriage before his death on December 8, 2020. Shirley was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and enjoyed volunteering when she was able. She worked for several years as a secretary at Johns Manville in Defiance until her retirement. She enjoyed being with her friends on Thursday nights at the Elks, baking, making candy, and being a "snow bird" spending her winters in Florida. Shirley is survived by her loving children, Todd (Melissa) Adcock of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Laura (Ron) Lapland of Coldwater, MI, five grandchildren; Lauren (Cory) Roof, Grant Adcock, Michael (Tayler) Taylor, Cassandra (Trevor) Ely, Garrett (Brittany) Lapland, five great-grandchildren, her brother Jerry (Judy) Mekus, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Larry, and her brother Victor (Joyce) Mekus Jr. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 18, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson-Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton Street) in Defiance. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 am on Monday, January 19th at St. Mary Catholic Church with Fr. John Stites officiating. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service at the church. Shirley will be laid to rest in Riverview Memory Gardens. Memorials are suggested to St. Mary Catholic Church Food Pantry.
