Sherrell L. Meyer, 82, of Defiance, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2024 at Glenn Park surrounded by her family. She was born on April 8, 1942 to Muriel Fillman and Charles Volkert in Defiance. On June 22, 1963 she married Raymond J. Meyer who preceded her in death. She was a member of St Isidore Catholic Church (previously known as St. Stephen's the Bend).  She worked at Sauder Woodworking for 14 years in quality and Ohio Art for 25 years.  Sherrell was very proud of the fact that she made Etch-a-Sketches.  She was also a Red Cross Volunteer for 8 years.  Sherrell loved making weaved baskets and her dogs, Scooter and Leo. Sherrell is survived by her children, John R. (Joan) Meyer of Tipp City, Ohio and Tracey (Gary) Backhaus of Defiance.  She leaves behind her grandchildren, David Hartman of Defiance, Andy (Amanda) Hartman of Alexandria, Ohio, Breanna (Kyle) Richards of Defiance, Corey Backhaus of Defiance, and Mikaela (Trey) Meyer of Arkansas along with her great-grandchildren, Tori Hartman, Gavin Hartman, and Emilia Richards.  Also surviving are her brother, William Volkert and sister-in-law, Gloria Volkert. She was preceded in death by her mother, Muriel M Volkert; husband, Raymond John Meyer, and brother, Michael Volkert. Visitation will be held Friday, April 12, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance with a Rosary Service at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 11:00 am at the St. Isidore Catholic Church-Delaware Bend, with Fr. Jason D'Souza, officiating. Burial will take place in the St. Stephen's Catholic Cemetery, The Bend. Memorials are suggested to the Ft Defiance Humane Society or American Red Cross.
