Shelley M. Kent, age 69, of Defiance, Ohio, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2025 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio.

She was born on May 20, 1956 to the late Raymond and Marlene (Spengler) Buchman in Defiance, OH. She was a 1974 graduate of Defiance High School.  On February 27, 1993 she married Kenneth L. Kent.

Shelley was a member of the Ayersville United Methodist Church. She worked as a homemaker taking care of her family and many others, becoming known to many as "Mama Kent". Shelley had a fondness for crafts, especially ceramics and sewing. She would enjoy listening to the police scanner with her sister, keeping watch over her neighborhood. What she was really know for were her delicious blueberry muffins.

Shelley is survived by her children, Emily Kent of Defiance and Matthew Kent of Colorado Springs, CO, brother Dan (Rita) Buchman of Defiance, sister Julie (Bob) Baldwin of Defiance, her stepchildren, Kimberly Hagerman of Wauseon, OH, Stephanie Kent of McCloud, OK, and Kevin (Cheryl) Kent of Napoleon, OH, and brother-in-law Carl Kent of Continental, OH.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth L. Kent, and sister-in-law Brenda Kent.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2025 from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will follow on Wednesday at 12:00 pm at the funeral home, with Celebrant Deb Miller officiating. Shelley will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery.
