Shawn D. Hoffman, 67, of Defiance, passed away with his wife by his side on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Mercy Defiance Hospital.

He was born on June 4, 1949 to Donald and Lillian (Haney) Hoffman in Spencer, West Virginia. Shawn was a 1967 Graduate of Ayersville High School. On August 3, 1988 he married Bonnie Jean (Cape) Hoffman, who resides in Defiance. He served our country in the U.S. Army in the Artillery Unit in Vietnam, and received a Bronze Star. Shawn was a member of the Retired Teamster Local #908, a life member of VFW #3360, AmVets, and Elks, and was a member of the Moose and Eagles. He loved sports, and was a big fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Defiance Bulldogs.

Shawn is survived by his loving spouse of 27 years, wife Bonnie Jean Hoffman of Defiance, son, Jeremy Hoffman, several grandchildren, nieces and nephews, brothers, Vaughn (Lynn) Hoffman of Spring Arbor, Michigan,  David (Paige) Hoffman of Quincy, Michigan, and Kevin Hoffman of Holgate.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian and Donald Hoffman, son, Jason Hoffman, and stepson, Randy Bowen.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 pm on Thursday at the funeral home, with Fr. John Stites officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in the Veteran Section.
