Santos R. Sanchez, age 88 of Holgate, Ohio, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at Mercy Medical Center in Lorain, Ohio. She was born on December 28, 1935 to the late Juan Rodriguez and Gabriella (Bentancur) Zamora in Goliad, Texas. On November 5, 1966 she married Manuel G. Sanchez who preceded her in death. Santos was a faithful member of New Jerusalem Church in Defiance. She was a devoted and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, tending to her roses, and keeping in touch with her friends. She loved keeping busy and staying active. Santos treasured her time spent with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Santos is survived by her loving children, Daniel Bentancur of Defiance, Sophia Rodriguez of Toledo, OH, and Joseph (Ashlee) Sanchez of Elyria, OH. She also leaves behind 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and her siblings; Gabriela Reyes of Lynchburg, VA, Angelita Soliz of Plainview, TX, Elena Burns of Hillsboro, TX, Juan Rodriguez and Ysidro Rodriguez, both of Cleburne, TX, Richard Rodriguez of San Antonio, TX, and David Rodriguez of Bakersfield, CA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel G. Sanchez, and siblings; Charlie Rodriguez, Primo Rodriguez, Severo Rodriguez, Celestino Rodriguez, Minga Medrano, Estella Rodriguez, Timmy Alvardo, Mary Soliz, Joe Rodriguez, Jessie Zamora and John Zamora. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024 from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A Memorial Service will follow at 2:30 pm at the funeral home, with Pastor Pete Flores officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be directed to New Jerusalem Church.
