Samuel Ray Ankney, age 60 of Continental, Ohio, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2023 at his residence. He was born on May 24, 1962 to the late Donald and Barbara (VanScooter) Ankney in Defiance, Ohio. Sam worked as a commercial painter and was a member of Painter's Union Local #867. He enjoyed woodworking, carving, drawing, puzzles, and being outdoors. Sam is survived by his son, Joe Ankney of Paulding, OH, and his siblings; Rebecca Ankney of Defiance, Bernard (Cynthia) Ankney of Defiance, and Shelby (William Southam) Anderson-Southam of Defiance. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Barbara Ankney, his son, Joshua Ankney, his brother, Donald Ankney, and sisters, Rose LaFountain and Sarah Miller. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 23, 2023 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A Memorial Service will follow at 1:00 pm at the funeral home, with Celebrant Deb Miller officiating. Memorials are suggested to the family, c/o Joe Ankney.
