Ruth Ann (Betsy) Steffel Ruth Ann (Betsy) Steffel, 85, of Defiance, passed away at 12:30 P:M , Friday, January 22nd, 2010 at Vancrest Health Care Center, Holgate, Oh. She was born in Defiance County, Ohio on October 7, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Loly and Helen (Swary) Gustwiller. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, a homemaker and a long time active member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She married Wilbur Steffel on May 10, 1952 and he died March 27, 2004 . Betsy especially loved babies and children. She was a talented musician, skilled in playing a variety of musical instruments as well as having a wonderful singing voice. She would sing at weddings and other special events. Most of all Betsy was a loving and devoted Christian mother, strong in her faith to the Lord. Surviving are three daughters: Kay (Kim) Griffith of Defiance, Julie Meyers of Ft. Wayne, Sheila Hoover of Defiance. three sons: Russell (Cathy) Steffel of Defiance, Dan (Big) Steffel of Defiance, Rex (Big Al) Steffel of Defiance. Four sisters: Pauline (Beenie) Thomas of New Bavaria, Alberta (Berta) Wenzinger of Continental, Anna Rose (Honey) Reed of Defiance, and Pearl (Babe) Klingshirn of Defiance She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. Besides her husband Wilbur, she was preceded in death by two brothers Aloysius (boy) Gustwiller and Lavon (Gus) Gustwiller, two sisters: Martha (Boots) Reineke and Antoinette (Nettie) Wolf. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at at St. Michael's Catholic Church, at 11:00 A:M on Tuesday, January 26th, with Father George Wenzinger officiating. Visitation is Monday 2-9 at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home with a rosary service at 8:00 P:M. Interment at St. Michael's Cemetery. Suggested memorials are to St. Michael's Catholic church.
