Ruth L. Max Ruth L. Max, 96, of rural Defiance, passed away Sunday, March 20th, 2016 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. She was born in Highland Township, Defiance County, Ohio on April 21, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Wilhelmina (Troeger) Max. Ruth was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church. The Ladies Aid, Lutheran Women's Mission League, Bible Study. She was a lifetime member of the National, State and Local Education Associations. She was a retired Latin teacher. She had taught at Ridgville Local School for 13 years and Bryan city Schools for 21 years, retiring in 1974. She was a 1936 graduate of Defiance High School and graduated from Defiance College in 1940. Surviving are three nieces; Nancy(Peter) McCoy, Jeanne Max and Barbara (David) Foy, all from California, grand nieces and grand nephews and many friends. Ruth was preceded in death by a brother Roger Max. Services will be at St. Stephen Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 26th, with Rev. William Stottlemyer officiating. Visitation is Friday 2-6 p.m. at the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home 1753 S. Clinton St. Defiance. Burial will be in St. Stephen's Lutheran Cemetery prior to services.
