Ruth Knoll Ruth Elizabeth Knoll, 95, of Defiance, was called home by her heavenly father on Friday, November 6, 2015, surrounded by her family. She was born on January 1, 1920 in Cloverdale to the late Clarence and Nellie (Foley) Martin. On March 4, 1939 she married Daniel Knoll who preceded her in death in 1990. She graduated from Continental High School in 1938. Ruth worked at Woolworth's Store for several years then at the Campbell Soup Co. for 21 years, retiring in 1981. For many years she belonged to After Five (A Christian women's club). Holidays were special for her because she loved to have family around her. She spent most of her spare time reading and doing puzzles until her eyesight went bad. Ruth's favorite response to everything was "Whatever." Survivors include two sons: Neil (Joyce) Knoll of Defiance and Gary (Sandra Storch) Knoll of Elizabeth, Colorado, son in law Jerry Engle, her grandchildren: Tonya (Jeff) Justus, Wendy (Scott) Sullivan both of Defiance, Timothy (Jessica) Engle of Alisa Viejo, California, Steven (Christeen Magel) Knoll of Commerce City, Colorado, Travis Knoll of California. Great grandchildren: Trevor and Madison Justus, Ally Sullivan, Teddy and Maddy Knoll. Also, surviving is one brother Gene (Ruthie) Martin, Continental and one sister Betty Mitchell, Oceanside, California and many nieces, nephews and friends. Besides her husband and parents also preceding her in death was a daughter Pat Engle, brothers Richard Martin, Forest Martin, sister Wanda Hostettler, a brother Larry and sister Beverly died in infancy. Sisters in laws Jo Ann and Jeanne Martin and brother in law Jim Hostettler. Ruth was loved and will be missed by all, but we know God is in control. He saw her getting tired, and a cure not meant to be, so he wrapped his arms around her and whispered come with me. Visitation will be at the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home, 2 - 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, 301 Carter Rd. Defiance, with viewing one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens.
