Rudolph J Black Sr., 77, of Ney, passed away Sunday morning, September 1, 2013 in the CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

He was born October 3, 1935 in Monroe, Michigan and was the son of Andrew and Mary (Major) Black.

Rudolph is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Helen (Craig) Black, whom he married on December 7, 1955. Other survivors include three sons; Rudolph Black Jr. of Ney, Cory (Tammy) Black and Joshua (Jessica Perez)  Black all of Defiance, six daughters; Kim (Jimmy) Harrill of Madisonville, TN, Pam Black and Denise Young both of Ney, Lori (Rick) Baldwin of Deltona, FL, Michelle (Randy Rocholt) Headley of Hudson, IN, Julie (Dan Diamond) Black of Antwerp, 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, 7 brothers, 8 sisters and 4 great grandchildren.

Rudolph served his county in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  Also known as the "the booty doctor," he worked for many years at the GM Powertrain until his retirement in October 1993. Rudolph was a life member of the Defiance VFW post 33600,  loved the outdoors, helping people and spending time with his 4 dogs and his grandchildren.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, September 4, 2013 from 2 to 8pm in the Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance.

Funeral service to celebrate his life will be Thursday, September 5, 2013 at 11:00am in the funeral home with Pastor Paul Ellis & Pasto Randy Wilson officiating.

Burial with military honors provided by the VFW Post #3360 will be in Poplar Ridge Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the CHP Defiance Hospice.
