Ruby M. Akers, age 90 of Oakwood, Ohio, passed away on Monday, September 13, 2021 at Brookview Healthcare Center in Defiance, Ohio. She was born on December 15, 1930 to the late Fred and Stella (Barrett) Murnahan in Lawrence County, Ohio. On October 5, 1964 she married John Akers, who preceded her in death on September 1, 2009.

Ruby was a member of Defiance Apostolic Christian Church - The Rock Church in Oakwood. She worked for several years at ServiceMaster at The Defiance College. Her favorite hobby was collecting baby dolls, and she loved her Pug "Dotty". She enjoyed being outdoors and planting flowers. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Ruby is survived by her sons; Terry (Jennifer) Porter of Defiance, and Perry (Paula) Porter of Jackson, OH, seventeen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, her sister, Lawanna McSorly, and her special friends, Juanita Mowery and Amy Richards. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Akers, her sister, Ima Jean Sites, and her children; Jacklyn Black, Bill Kegley, Brenda Akers, and Johnny Akers, Jr. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson/Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton Street, Defiance). A funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon at the funeral home, with Pastor Bobby Branham and Pastor Tim Lucas  officiating. Due to CDC guidelines, if you are not fully vaccinated, a mask is required to enter the funeral home, and our lounge area will remain closed. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery.
