Rome Shepherd
Rome Shepherd, 83, Defiance, Ohio, died Friday, September 6, 2013, at the St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo
He was born January 23, 1930, in David, Kentucky the son of Henry and Donna (Stevens) Shepherd. On ,September 25, 1952 he married Goldie Hadding who preceded him in death on September 19, 2007.
Rome served his country in the Army during the Korean War, receiving two purple hearts and a bronze star. He moved to Defiance in 1953 and worked for 37 years at the GM Foundry, retiring in 1990. He raised Roller Pigeons, enjoyed fishing and was an avid coon hunter. Rome was a member of the AMVETS and VFW post #3360 and was Chairman of the Local 211 election committee.
Surviving are his son, Roman (Deb) Shepherd, son, Roger Shepherd, Robert Shepherd, daughter, Brenda (Dan) Straley, 9 grandchildren, 20 Great Grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, brother, Reuben Shepherd, of Jackson Michigan a sister, Sue of Florida and an adopted son Jim Culp of Toledo.
Preceding him in death were his father, Henry Shepherd, mother, Donna Shepherd,wife, and daughter, Debra Dumire.
Services will be at a later date and are in care of the Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance.
Memorials are to a charity of the donors choice.
