Rodney L. "Foot" Van Alst, 55, of Defiance, passed away on  Friday morning, February 15, 2019 at his residence in Defiance. He was born on January 21, 1964 to Vane and Maxine (Rice) Van Alst in Fremont, Ohio. On April 20, 2017  he married Donya (Carroll) Van Alst, who resides in Defiance. Rodney worked for several years at Integrity Body Shop in Defiance, and had multiple Degrees. He enjoyed learning, loved to ride motorcycles with The Guardians, and go fishing and camping. Rodney will be sadly missed by his family and many good friends. Rodney is survived by his wife, Donya Van Alst of Defiance, a step son, Cody Hill, and a step daughter, Mickayla Hill both of Defiance, brothers, Rex Van Alst of  Reading, MI, Rick Van Alst of Arizona, and Randal Van Alst of Florida, sisters, Roxann Van Alst of Defiance, and Rana (Dan) Montgomery of  Newark, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A luncheon will be held at noon Wednesday prior to the visitation at the Defiance Eagles Hall.  Visitation will be held from 2-8 pm on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance.
