Roberto D. Gonzalez, 86, of Kettering, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Heartland of Kettering, Kettering, OH.

He was born on April 5, 1928 to Jesus Sr. and Lucinda (Oceana) Gonzalez in Mission, TX.  In 1952 he married Inez Ponce, who survives.

Roberto was a US Navy Veteran, and he was a member of UAW Retiree Club, a long time dedicated GM employee as a cupola operator known to many as "Babe".  Roberto was known to his family as a storyteller, and a family man with integrity and dignity..

Roberto is survived by his daughters, Maria Dolores (Jose) Gonzalez of Centerville, OH, Anna Maria (David) Roddy of West Chester, OH, Leticia G. (Michael) Thompson of Defiance, OH, Alicia Gonzalez of Cincinnati, OH, and Lucinda (Fredrick) Moser of Defiance, OH, a son, Roberto C. (Wenda) Gonzalez of Middletown, OH, 11 Grandchildren, 8 Great Grandchildren, sisters, Elisa Benavidez of Othello, WA, and Irma Zavala of McCallan, TX, and a brother, Jesus M. Gonzalez, Jr. of Othello, WA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus M. Sr. and Lucinda Gonzalez, a son, Gonzalo Gonzalez, sisters, Josephina Hernandez, and Amelia Chavez, and a brother, Pedro Gonzales.

Visitation will be held Monday, December 22, 2014, 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home, Inc., Defiance, Ohio, with a Vigil Service at 2:00 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2014, 11:00 am at St Mary's Catholic Church, Defiance, Ohio, with Father Randy Giesige, officiating.

Burial will take place in the Riverside Cemetery, with military honors conducted by VFW Post 3360.
