Robert E. Weaks
Robert Edward Weaks, 94, of Defiance, peacefully passed away Sunday May 21, 2017 at Kingsbury House Assisted Living Center. He was born October 19, 1922 to E. Glen and Ruth (Wilhelm) of Napoleon. Bob served our country courageously in the U.S. Marine 4th Division during World War II. He received a commendation ribbon for services rendered for his meritorious and efficient performance during operations against the enemy June 15-August 6, 1944 on Saipan and Tinian of Marianas Islands and February 21-March 19, 1945 on Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands. After the war, he joined his father's E.G. Weaks Chrysler Dealership in Napoleon until 1955. In 1955 he opened Bob and Joe's Gulf station also in Napoleon until 1964. He then worked at GM Powertrain in Defiance where he retired in 1984. He married Beverly O'Neil (Toledo) on October 8, 1949. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the American Legion Post 300, VFW Post 3360, and the Elks. He and his wife enjoyed spending time with family at Devils Lake, MI and Sarasota, Fl. He was a fan of Ohio's many sports teams. He was proceeded in death by his wife, brother James, and parents. He will be missed by his daughters Karen, Bonnie (Robert), sons Michael (Debbie), Gary (Phyllis), and Randy (Kathryn). Grandchildren: Amy, Christina (Trey), Matthew (Erin), Katie (Greg), Kevin (Julie), Kerrie (Mike), Kacey and 5 great grandchildren. A funeral on Friday, May 26 will include visitation at Lawson Roessner Funeral Home from 10:00 am - 11:00 am, services at 11:00 am with internment following at Riverside Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the VFW.
