Robert W. Vogel, 97, of Defiance, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at Twin Rivers Care and Rehabilitation Center in Defiance.

He was born on February 17, 1920 to Bernard and Hazel (Wolf) Vogel in Defiance. On March 12, 1941 he married Evelyn (Carrick) Vogel, who preceded him in death on October 1, 1975.

Robert  served our country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked as a foreman at Johns Manville for 24 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Eagles #372, VFW #3360, Elks #147, Defiance Moose and AMVETS. Robert enjoyed golfing, bowling, horseshoes, and playing cards. Robert was a fan of  The Ohio State Buckeyes.

Robert will be sadly missed by his daughter, Bonnie (Don) Goldenetz, son, Robert (Lana) Vogel, son-in-law, James McNeel, all of Defiance, 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Evelyn Vogel, daughter, Tami McNeel, and sisters, Betty Limbaugh and Thea Palenski.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, Ohio. A Memorial Service will follow at 1:00 pm at the funeral home, with Pastor Larry Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery, where Graveside Military Rites will be accorded by VFW Post #3360.
