Robert A. Stevens, 82 , of Defiance, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2016 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

He was born on November 29, 1934 to Chalmer and Rose (Bloomer) Stevens  in Henry County. On August 26, 1955 he married Jeanine (Peters) Stevens, who resides in Defiance.

Robert was a member of  Ayersville United Methodist Church. He worked for several years for Defiance Dairy, and then as a gas mechanic for Toledo Edison, retiring in 1985. Robert loved spending his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid University of Michigan fan, and enjoyed fishing and traveling.

Robert will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 61 years, Jeanine Stevens of Defiance, daughter, Michele Stevens of Defiance, son, Douglas (Kim) Stevens of Perrysburg, brothers, Chalmer Stevens, Jr. of Florida, Terry (Virginia) Stevens of Tennessee, and  Jerry (Janet) Stevens of Ayersville,  grandchildren; Randi Rios, Lindsey (Byron) Bevard, Weston (Lindsay) Stevens, Brandon (Sherry) Stevens, and Brittany (Jesse) Hamilton, and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Roberta Peters.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on   Friday, December 23, 2016 at Ayersville United Methodist Church, with Pastor Clarence Dinnen officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Memory Gardens.
