Robert C. Miller, age 85 of Defiance, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2025 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Sherwood, Ohio on October 1, 1940 to the late Robert and Vera (Herron) Miller. Robert was a 1958 graduate of Sherwood High School. On April 7, 1962 he married Carol "Susie" Schultz who preceded him in death on August 11, 2020.

Robert was a dedicated member of St. John's Catholic Church in Defiance and the Kiwanis Club. He attended Xavier University and Fort Wayne International Business College proudly earning his Accounting Degree. His accounting career began at Figley Accounting from 1962-1977 before working at Steyer & Huber Accounting for over 30 years until his retirement. He loved bowling on local bowling teams for over 40 years and also enjoyed hunting and canoeing.  Robert was the last living member of the Miller Family from the famed Four Horsemen of Notre Dame member Don Miller.  Robert will be sadly missed by his family and many good friends and colleagues. Robert is survived by his loving children, Tamara Erwin, Barbara (Tom) Hopkins and Robert C. Miller III, three grandchildren, Edward "Butch" (Becky) Hammersmith, Lindsay Hopkins and Robert John (Taylor) Hammersmith, and four great-grandchildren, Kasyn, Brycen, Brooks and Emma Hammersmith. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026 from 9:30 am -10:30 am at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A Memorial Mass will follow at 11:00 am at St. John's Catholic Church with Fr. Kevin McGraw officiating.  Burial will take place at St. Stephen Catholic Cemetery, The Bend. Memorials can be directed to St. John's Catholic Church or CHP Defiance Area Hospice Center.
