Robert "Pa" Dale Johnson, 86, of Phoenix, AZ, snow-birding in Ohio, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2013 at his Defiance residence.
He was born on August 15, 1927 to John and Mabel (Jacobson) Johnson in Canton, SD. He served his country as a Navy seamen during WWII, in Guam.
On October 31, 1948 he married Joanne Marie (Mehring) Johnson at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Defiance, Ohio. Robert & Joanne spend summers in Defiance, Ohio and Phoenix, Arizona in the winters, enjoying the dry heat and spending time with their families.
Robert was employed as an engineer for Allied Signal (formally Air Research) from 1955 to January 17, 1997, when he retired after 37 years of service.
When in Arizona, Robert spends his time on the golf course, with 'the Foursome'; Murray Pruetz, Frank Williams, Bill Klause and Ray Mehring. When not on the green, Robert could be found bowling, or perched on a stool at the 5 cent slots, with a bagel in hand.
He is survived by his loving spouse of 64 years, Joanne, of Defiance, OH, daughter, Diane (Murray) Pruetz of Phoenix, AZ, daughter, Kathy (Steve) Pritchett of Sun City, AZ, brother, Dennis Lee (Becky) Johnson of Payson, AZ, grandchildren, Dawn (Andrew) Lapp-Rodriguez of Peoria, AZ, Sean (Erin) Lapp of Surprise, AZ, Jennifer (Jeff) Boulais of Peoria, AZ, Deborah (CJ) Pringle of Phoenix, AZ, Bobby Stringer of Phoenix, AZ, 11 great grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Irene Smith, Rosemary Mehring, Mary Mehring, Marilyn Mehring, all of Defiance, Dorothy Vasher of Napoleon, OH, and brother-in-law, Robert Smith of Defiance, OH, numerous nieces, nephews, 8 God-children and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents John & Mabel Johnson, brothers, John Johnson Jr., Douglas Johnson, and sister, Louise Lykken.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 30, 2013 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2013, at 10:00 am at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Diemer officiating.
Entombment will take place in the Riverview Memory Gardens, with Military Honors from the Defiance, VFW Post 3360.
