Robert D. Bell, age 74 of Defiance, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2026 at his residence.

He was born in Grant County, Indiana on May 18, 1952 to the late Jeffrey and Phoebe (Penn) Bell. Robert was a proud veteran. He worked for over 35 years at General Motors in Defiance until his retirement in 2000. He was an avid golfer and was a member of Auglaize Golf Club. Robert had an extraordinary work ethic and also drove truck for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, golfing, and watching Jeff Gordon. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and his dogs. Any time spent with Robert was guaranteed to be a time of laughter and jokes. He will be remembered as a kind man who was always willing to help others.

Robert is survived by his children, Tricia (Jonathon) Kunta, Shannon (Johnathon) Francis, and Robert (Pepper) Bell. He also leaves behind 15 grandchildren, including Allison Manson, Caleb Schlegel, Gage Schlegel, and Isabel Schlegel, and 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jane Bell, and brothers, Jeffrey Bell, Russell Bell, William Bell, and Harvey "Dude" Bell.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Thursday, July 9, 2026 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A private burial will be held at Junction Cemetery.
