River Avery Mahan, a newborn from Defiance, passed away on Monday, February 15, 2016 at the Toledo Children's Hospital. She was born on February 8, 2016 to Austin Mahan and Kayla Matney of Defiance. River will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her parents, Austin and Kayla of Defiance, grandfathers, Gregory Mahan of Defiance, Wetzel Matney, Jr. of Tazewell, Tennessee, grandmother, Pamela Salyers of Londonderry, Ohio, uncles, Sergio Chavez and Javier Chavez, both of Defiance, godparents Tanner Basinger and  Miranda Johnson, both of Continental, Ohio, and many others that loved her. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Bridget Mahan, and uncle, Jimmie Matney. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday, February 19, 2016 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home, with Pastor Bob Morrison officiating. Memorials are suggested to the family
