Rita F. Bowers, 93, of Defiance, passed away peacefully on Friday morning,  July 13, 2018 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. She was born on March 14, 1925 to Peter and Theresia (Weaver) Weaner in Defiance County. In 1944 she married Robert C. Bowers, who preceded her in death in 1982. Rita was a faithful member of  St. Mary Catholic Church. She worked for several years at Zeller Corp. in Defiance. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandson and great-grandchildren. Rita will be sadly missed by her daughter, Pamela (Edward) Stephens, son, Thomas Bowers, all of Defiance, and grandson, Douglas (Kendra) Stephens of Columbus, Ohio, three great-grandchildren; Jack, Emme, and Luke Stephens, and her sister-in-law, Lou Ann Weaner of Napoleon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Bowers, six brothers; Monroe, Robert, Maurice, Norman, Paul, and William Weaner, and five sisters; Geraldine Couture, Catherine Spengler, Bernadette Weaner, Hazel Miller, and Mary McGaharan. Private visitation and services were held at 11:00 am on Tuesday July 17, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, with Deacon Jeff Mayer officiating.
