(Jakubowski) Brimmer
January 26, 1937 – October 14, 2014
Rita A Brimmer, 77, of Defiance, passed away on October 14, 2014 at the Toledo Hospital, Toledo, OH, with family by her side.
She was born on January 26, 1937 to Stanley and Sophie (Szewczykowski) Jakubowski of Toledo, OH. On May 12,1962 she married Joseph A. Brimmer, who preceded her in death on May 20, 2013.
Rita was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Defiance, Elks Auxiliary, Defiance Moose Lodge and Defiance Eagles. She was the head cook at Spencer School, retiring in 2008. Rita was an Auxiliary volunteer at the Defiance Hospital Gift Shop, and she previously worked as a certified nursing assistant at Toledo Hospital in the Psychiatric Unit.
Mom was an avid animal lover, caring for all of her furry friends. She loved shopping, playing cards, feeding birds and wildlife, gambling at casinos, and discovered QVC shopping as a newfound joy. Mom especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Rita is survived by her sons Christopher (Amy Lynn) Brimmer of Columbus, OH, and Jeffery (Marian) Brimmer of Angola, IN; daughters, Pamela (Orton) Ryan of Toledo, OH, and AmyJo Brimmer of Defiance, OH; grandchildren, Derek Brimmer, Natalie Brimmer, Grant Brimmer, Alison Brimmer, and Alexandria Berger; brother Dale (Sue) Jakubowski of Toledo, OH, and granddogs, Chloe, Wren, and Rocky.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Joseph A Brimmer.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 17, 2014, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm & 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, Ohio, with a vigil service being held at 2:00 pm.
A Mass of Chrisitian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2014, 11:00 am at St. John Catholic Church, with Father Todd Dominique, officiating.
The Family requests memorials be directed to the Defiance County Humane Society or to the church in memory of Rita Brimmer.
A special thank you to Dr. Donald Vogel and Dr. Dean Bernardo for their compassion and care of Rita through out the years. The family also extends a thank you to Dr. Nathan Cotterman and his trauma team, along with all nurses and staff in SICU at Toledo Hospital for exceptional care and compassion.
