Richard James Sheets, 39, of Defiance, passed away on April 6, 2014 at his residence in Defiance.

He was born on November 10, 1974 to Richard and Suzanne (Boff) Sheets in Bryan. Richard was a member of St. Isidore's Catholic Church. He was a 1993 graduate of Fairview High School where he was involved with the 4-H and the FFA. Richard was a US Army veteran serving during Operation Desert Storm. He was a member of the VFW of Sherwood. Richard worked at Sauder Woodworking and farmed. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family, especially with his nieces and nephews.

Richard is survived by his parents of Defiance, daughter, Heavin Weber of Sherwood, sisters, Shellie (Keith) Chambers of Little Rock, Arkansas, Brenda (Paul) Harold of South Bend, Indiana, Carrie Sheets of Defiance, brothers, Tony Sheets of Defiance, Jason (Carrie) Sheets of Grover Hill, and his grandparents, Martin & Lucille Sheets of Defiance. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles & Annabelle Boff.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2014, at St. Isidore's Catholic Church - Marysdale with Father Robert Kill officiating. Burial will follow at Sherwood Cemetery where military graveside rites will be accorded. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Schaffer Funeral Home and 10:00-11:00 a.m. Friday at the church. A vigil service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon at the funeral home.

The family suggest memorials be directed to St. Isidore's Catholic Church - Marysdale or to a charity of the donor's choice.
