Richard "Dick" R. Ankney, 75, of Defiance, passed away peacefully at home, in his favorite chair, on July 8, 2014.

He was born on January 19, 1939 to Rudy and Gertrude (Rosselet) Ankney in Defiance, OH. Dick was a farmer, but had also worked for Defiance Township for over 40 years. On June 11, 1960 he married Mary Font and they lived in Defiance.

Dick was a life member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Junction and the AmVets. He also belonged to the American Legion, VFW, Eagles, Moose, and Auglaize Fox Club.

Richard is survived by his loving spouse of 54 years, Mary, sons; Marvin (Deanna) Ankney of Stryker, OH, Ray (Linda) Ankney, John Ankney & Tim Ankney, all of Defiance, ;OH, daughters, Marilyn (Ron) Steel, Brenda (Larry Couts) Clingaman & Ginny (Tim) Wiseman, all of Defiance, OH, 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mary (Glen) Johnson of Cecil, OH.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bill Ankney.

Visitation will be held from 2-8 pm on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Inc., Defiance, Ohio, and one hour before the funeral service begins on Friday. A vigil service will be held on Thursday at 2:00 pm with Deacon Don Meyer, officiating. The AmVets will also perform a service at 5:00 pm on Thursday.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 11, 2014, 1:00 pm at the Schaffer Funeral  Home, Defiance, Ohio, with Father John Stites, officiating.

Burial will take place in the Junction Cemetery.
