Richard D. Mekus Richard D. Mekus, 81, of Defiance, passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. He was born in Defiance on November 12,1928, he was the son of the late Henry and Gertrude (Leithauser) Mekus. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Richard married Lois Fett-Baker in 1985 who died Aug. 5, 2007. He had worked as a machinist at Defiance Precision. He was a member of the Defiance Moose, Eagles, VFW, Am Vets, Star Hose and the Emerald Auglaize Township Fox Club. He was a 1946 graduate of North Richland -Adams High School. Surviving are Step Daughters: Deb (Denny) Penland of Auburn, In, Brenda (Jesse) Myers of Auburn, In, Cheri (Dan) Kaiser of Butler, In, Jodi (Marty) Cocke of Defiance, Tina Schmidt of Cecil, Oh. Step Sons: Mike (Cathy) Klein of Defiance, Mark (Barb) Klein of Defiance, Stanley Baker of Defiance. Brother: Albert (Marion) Mekus of Defiance. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren; Kristi (Todd) Pariseau, Casey (Bethany) Klein, Joe Klein, Katherine Klein, Stacy (Nathan) Tatman, Al Wilson, Bruce Wilson, Jessica (Ben) Stout, Ryan (Taya) Myers, Jake Myers, Jeremy (Rachel) Kaiser, Dani Kaiser, Rodney Baker, Heath Baker, Desiree Baker, Breana Schmidt, Alexis Schmidt and 21 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by four brothers; Ambrose, Florian, Robert and Justin Mekus. Five sisters Rosemary Flaherty, Germaine Moser, Leolea Hostettler, Pauline Custar and Dolores Batt. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A:M Saturday, February 27, at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Father Tim Kummerer officiating. Friends are invited to call 2-8 Friday at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home with a scripture service at 7:30 P:M. Interment at St. Michael's Cemetery.
