Richard E. Grunden, 88, of Defiance, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, August 16, 2018 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. He was born on August 6, 1930 to Walt and Lucille (Miller) Grunden in Paulding County, Ohio. On January 6, 1949 he married Marie (Brown) Grunden, who preceded him in death on February 19, 2006. Richard was a member of AMVETS #1991, Moose Lodge #2094, and Defiance Fish & Game. In his leisure time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and singing karaoke. Richard is survived by his four grandchildren; Jamie (Catherine) Grunden, Joe (Lori) Grunden, Kendra (William) Smith, and Brittany Grunden, all of Defiance, 8 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Grunden, son, Ken Grunden, and a half-brother. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 22nd at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Rev. David Brobston officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverview Memory Gardens.
