Richard Eugene Grimes, 82, of Defiance, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at The Laurels of Shane Hill in Rockford, Ohio.

He was born on May 24, 1935 to William and Donna (Schafer) Grimes in Napoleon, Ohio. Richard served our country in the U.S. Army Reserve as a Private 2nd Class in 1958. Richard worked at General Motors in Defiance for 49 years. He was married to Bonita "Sue" Grimes, who preceded him in death on April 10, 2017.

Richard was a member of UAW #211. He was a huge NASCAR fan, especially Dale Earnhart. He was an avid bowler, and enjoyed traveling, playing cards, watching wrestling, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Richard will be sadly missed by his daughters, Deb Grimes, Babs Grimes, Staci Grimes, and Traci Grimes, 3 grandchildren, sisters, Annabell, Sue, Kathleen, and Katherine, and brother, Bill Grimes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Bonita "Sue" Grimes, sisters, Roberta and Mary Lee, and  brothers, James, Danny, and Donny Grimes.

Visitation will be held from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm on Monday, July 3, 2017 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services and burial will follow at 1:15 pm on Monday at Riverview Memory Gardens in Defiance, with Pastor Donald Leonard officiating.
