Richard F. Berger, 71, of Defiance, passed away on Thursday morning, September 23, 2021 at his home in Defiance. He was born on June 19, 1950 to Frank and Phyllis (Hauter) Berger in Toledo, Ohio. In 1983 he married Barbara (Morgan) Berger, who survives. Richard proudly served our country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

Richard will be sadly missed by his wife of 38 years, Barbara Berger, and his children; Dawn (Ken) White, Tammy (Roger) Sumner, and Dan (Angie) Christy. He also leaves behind his grandchildren; Melody (Adam) Greenwood, Robert (Dez) Lusk, Christina (Jason) Troy, Theodore Lusk, Ashley Christy, Amber (Michael) Christy, Cassandra White, and Seth White, and several great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 27, 2021 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm at the funeral home, with Pastor Matthew Parks officiating. Due to CDC guidelines, if you are not fully vaccinated, a mask is required to enter the funeral home, and our lounge area will remain closed. Burial will follow the service at Riverview Memory Gardens, with graveside military rites accorded by VFW #3360. Memorials are suggested to the family.
